Open Question: Why are conservatives ingrates to liberals?
It reminds me of the story of “Joe The Conservative” :

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee.
The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.
With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer’s medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance – now Joe gets it too.
He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total
contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.
Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a conributor.
Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.
Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union.If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noon time and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.
Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home.
His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers’ Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification.
He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to.
Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn’t mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.
Joe agrees: “We don’t need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I’m a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like. I have.”

Open Question: What is wrong with my boyfriend? Or is it me?
I’m 25 years old and I’ve been dating a superior at work for the last 3 and a half months. We’ve been working together for almost five years. He‘s 10 years older than me and has children from his first relationship. We always got along very well (We wouldn’t be dating if we didn’t). His last relationship was with a woman with issues (depression, insecurity, alcoholism). The relationship lasted 8 years.

Since we’re together, I get the feeling things are going so fast. The very same week we started our relationship, I was expected to sleep at his house. Because we don’t have the same schedule, I’m only home 2 days a week. I moved into a new apartment only months before we were together and because of the lack of time I spend home, it’s not even fully renovated or decorated yet (even to this day).

Two weeks into our relationship, he’s asked me countless of times to meet his parents and his brother’s family. Because we started dating close to Christmas, I was expected to attend his family’s supper. Because I wasn’t ready, I declined the offer.

When his children are home, he’s constantly putting pressure for me to get closer to them (both are older than 10). Not too long ago, his children had a week of vacation. Because I worked, he decided to bring them skiing for the week. At first he went to his cabin for the weekend and left his children with his parents (who were also there) and came back Sunday night because he missed me too much. I spent the night with him and went to work the following day. He told me to have a good week and he was going to miss me. We spoke on the phone and text messages. Because he was gone for the week, I made plans to visit my family and friends.

Unexpectedly, I get a text message Wednesday afternoon saying he was back home. He missed me too much and wanted to see me. Unfortunately, I had made plans already for the following day and Friday. Because of this, he got really upset and accused me of never spending enough time with him or including him in my plans, or not really loving him. I tried to tell him that I had no idea he was coming back this quickly and he told me it was ‘logic’ and that he would be back for my days off (which are Friday and Saturday) and that I should have thought about it before making plans. How am I supposed to guess when he was coming back?

Anyway, this type of situation happened before. If I want to stay at home, he’s asking why and doesn’t understand why I would choose home over his house. I have 2 cats and I can hardly see them anymore. I pay electricity, heat and my monthly rent and I’m never there. Whenever something comes up and I can’t go to his house, he becomes upset, tells me he doesn’t feel loved or feels rejected. Always tells me I don’t spend enough time with him and that I should constantly be at his house (even if we made it clear I wasn’t moving in).

When I plan to go out with a friend, he tells me I should let him know about it ‘in case’ he’s got something already planned out. When we finish work and go to his house around 4PM, he gets into his pyjamas and as soon as supper is finished, falls asleep on the couch around 7:30. I’m always alone to watch TV or read a book. His computer is really old, therefore it takes ages to load a page. When I text my mom, he gets really annoyed and asks me why I wouldn’t simply pick up the phone and call her instead (despite me telling him how we like texting each other).

What do you think is happening? Is he controlling or simply insecure? Could it be because his previous girlfriend cheated on him once with his friend that he thinks it’ll happen again? He always wants me to be with him but he’s always too tired to do anything. Sometimes he doesn’t want to do anything because he wants to do it with his children, so we have to wait the following week to do something (and we rarely do). Awhile ago, he wanted to go on vacation somewhere. I wasn’t asked where I would have liked to go. He decided to go to Cuba because his children would like it. So I didn’t have a say in anything until I told him it wasn’t the first destination I thought of going. He got upset and all plans died down.

I want kids and at first he didn’t. Then later tells me ‘maybe in 5 years I might’ but I obviously don’t believe him. Even if I don’t like where he lives, never will he plan to move elsewhere. His family is close and he lives in his father’s house, so it’s out of the question he moves away. I’m the one who has to leave my family behind to be with him (if we ever move in together). Why all the sacrifices have to come from me?

We’ve only been dating for 3 months. We see each other at work every day. I’ve been planning on going back to school and I wonder how he’s going to take it. Open Question: Diaper prank very embarrassing?
THIS REALLY HAPPENED! IM NOT A TROLL i promise!
so im 14 my parents were on a trip for vacation for 1 week and my sister ( 15 1/2 ) was in charge. she is a popular cheerleader and im just kinda in the middle popularity wise. anyway, here’s what happened:

she invited 2 of her friends over and they are both hot cheerleaders.and 14 years old too and in my grade..my sister is in the same grade but started a year late. my sister is nice to me as are her friends. So they invited me to hang with them in her room. I said yes and hung out. They decided to play truth or dare ONLY with money involved. So if you dont do a dare you lose money. ( like poker or black jack ) so they did it by spinning a bottle to see who is like..the asker for a turn.it landed right on my sisters friend anna. and she dared my sister to put ony a pair of my younger brother ( 7 he was sleeping ) underwear with no pants on. the game went on for around an hour so far and it was 10pm. my sister had nothing but spider man undies on and a hollister tank top, my sisters friends just did like dumb dares and i did my dares. But now my sister and her friends had a plan together. it turns out one of my sisters friends liked me, and i liked her. But were not this far yet.

girls are girls and they all went down stairs and told me they were heading to the store real fast to get some stuff for a sundae ( theres a walmart like a block from my house) so i just waited and watched tv for a little bit. about 30 minutes later they returned and took out some ice cream and stuff, and made some sundaes. but i did notice that there were a few things in the bag still, but i ignored it assuming it was my sisters friend’s.

we went back up stiars and my sister brought the other bag. They girls looked at me funny…and i just kinda smirked and said ” what?” then they allgrabbed me and like held me down… i didnt resist at all because im friends with them. but i was confused. anna said ” ready for a serious dare worh all the money so far?” i just said sure. and then my sister pulled my pants down and i blushed and squirmed a bit asking whats going on. and they pulled out a pack of size 7 pampers ( im pretty small im like 5′4 110 lbs.) and then off went my boxers and my sister put a diaper on me…funny thing is that it fit perfectly. then my shirt went off and on went a bib. then my sisters other friend emily took out a bottle with milk in it. and what do you know….

my sister left the room and little did i know she turned on her cell phone camera and left. and anna and emily were pretending i was a baby and feeding me and other baby stuff…but i had to use the bathroom! They wouldnt let me leave * it was all part of the prank* i really had to go though from all the bottle. and soon enough i peed myself. like normal girls they didnt say eww, instead they tried to change me! but personally i dont want them seeing my penis. but then as i was pleading and trying to convince them im not letting them change me anna said she had a crush on me then. And i froze and then what do you know she spanked me and then i heard a beep and looked over at my sisters phone. they all started laughing and my sister ran in and grabbed her hone and my sisters friends ran out the room. so im sitting here in a soiled diaper…..the next day they showed me the 15 minute long video of me as a “baby” with her friends being my moms…and i was utterly embarrassed. and it turns out my sisters friend didnt really like me she only said it so id calm down.

Voting Question: How To Protect a Label On a Vintage Bottle?
Very odd question, I know.

I recently bought a vintage Log Cabin Maple Syrup glass bottle that I plan to use as a cool vintage water container. I want to wash the thing thoroughly, but I’m worried about messing up the label since it’s a paper sticker. In the past, I’ve tried using clear masking tape over paper things on bottles, but water somehow always gets behind it and ruins it. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Oh, and I want to protect it because it’s super cool looking, not because it’s super valuable or anything.

Resolved Question: I’m not sure, should I tell them?
I am embarking on a journey that is as spiritual and philosophical as it is scientific. I am going to a far and remote location to build a log cabin and live there for the foreseeable future. I plan on leaving on August 10th, 2010. I have a layout of my plan, and everything is now set in motion. I just don’t know whether I should tell them (my friends and family) or not.

I will be giving my work the customary two weeks notice; I will have left no lose ends.

I don’t have any children, nor a wife, nor any other dependants. If any one would really take anything positive or negative from this, it would be me. This is a pretty big decision. I won’t be able to chicken out once I’ve left. When I’m gone, I’m GAWN!

What should I do? If I tell them and they don’t agree with me or they want me to stay, then I’ll have to convince them what I am doing is the right thing. But this is the right thing for me, I know it. It’s my decision, and I believe that I should be the one to execute it.

My original plan was to send each of my family members and good friends a letter the day before I go. The letter would explain what I’m doing and the basics of why.

Or, alternatively, should I just wait until next year, to make sure that I’m not just rashly jumping into something that requires more than a year of planning?
Wow! I got a good response! I’m happy to see that there are other people who think like I do, and I am also happy that there are those who are able to offer constructive criticism to my plan. Regarding the cabin itself: I have a plan, and at 1 log per day (a slow pace), I’ll have it done in 1&1/2 months. I’ll wait for more ansers and try to get a consensus answer.
