Animal prints have always been popular, not just for home decoration but in our clothing and even sometimes in our cars. They can be a great way to add an accent to a room, particularly if you have a room which looks rather bland, yet you don’t want to do a complete makeover. Or you might decide that you would like to use animal prints as the basis for a complete decorating theme, either for a single room or even for the whole house. If you would like to use animal prints in your home decor in some way, read on for some useful ideas to get you started.
A good place to get started with this type of theme is with your rugs. You probably don’t want to have an animal print carpet over the whole floor, but how about a rug? Sheepskins whether real or fake are still very popular but these days you can also buy rugs with a variety of animal print designs. These include the popular zebra (useful if you are going to have a black and white theme), as well as tiger, giraffe, cheetah and leopard. In keeping with the anti-fur campaigns, if you do not want to have an animal skin design, then how about a rug with animal pictures on it, such as an elephant, lion or dolphins?
Area rugs with animal images are a version of animal print designs. These are ideal for children’s bedroom or playroom. The diversity in patterns and colors is an eye-candy.
You will want to choose upholstery in a toning color scheme, or perhaps you could add a throw or cushions with the same animal print. There are many animal print fabrics available these days which you could use to make these, or have them made for you.
Another good touch is a picture (photograph, painting, print or poster) with a matching animal theme. If you have a zebra skin pattern on your rug, for example, then perhaps a picture of some zebra on the wall would be an excellent touch to really bring out your theme.
For repainting the walls, use colors that go well with the animal prints. You don’t have to paint zebra stripes but be more subtle with an off-white color for example. Or match the cheetah print of the pillows and cushion with a soft brown or a neutral shade. The objective is to create a coordinated interior where everything is in place.
If you have blinds, curtains or lampshades in your room, then consider animal prints for these, or perhaps picking out your color scheme with something softer. Natural fabrics and tones fit well with the overall picture of animals and therefore nature.
Finish off your theme with some animal ornaments and accessories for a decor scheme that is completely put together and totally wild!
